Global Solidarity: We Are Here for You – Worldwide, Fighting for Your Rights
If you’re working on a flag of convenience (FOC) ship, remember that you’re not alone, whether in port or on the high seas. ITF unions are working globally to provide decent working conditions, secure fair wages and safeguard your rights. If a seafarers’ union exists in your home country – such as ver.di in Germany – it’s essential to become a member.
However, even if no union exists or membership is not possible for you, the ITF and unions like ver.di will still support you. This solidarity is unique because other groups of workers, such as dockers, will step in to help enforce ITF agreements if disputes arise.
When you’re unable to assert your rights on your own – due to circumstances on board or in your home country – you can rely on global solidarity cooperation. The ITF has an extensive contact network, that is there to provide you with support for urgent or other matters, without you having to worry about personal repercussions.
The fastest way to find out if your ship is covered by the ITF-approved agreement, locate any of the ITF Inspectors worldwide and affiliated maritime trade unions, or report issues directly from your phone, is to use the ITF Seafarers App:
